This is a wing of our program that aims to address the deficits of sports medicine support and coverage provided to High School contact sports such as football. We provide free sports physicals for eligibility, sideline coverage with physicians, sports as a violence prevention strategy, and workshops on how athletes and coaches can recognize and respond to common sports emergencies prior to arrival of paramedics. such as concussions, heat stroke, sudden collapse/ CPR, allergic reactions, asthma, and neck injuries.
This past fall, we were able to complete 100 sports physicals to 3 schools, we were able to cover the majority of games for 2 football teams (Morgan Park and Phillips).
Summer (2021), we planned a Sports Medical Conference for Coaches to improve sports emergency readiness, as well as back-to-school sports physicals and a Violence Prevention Summit.
We were also the KeyNote presenters for a national Sports Medical Student Athlete Conference in June 2021.
